The Gunners suffered a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United at St James’ Park last weekend despite Alexandre Lacazette breaking the deadlock to end their three-game winning run in the Premier League.
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table but a long way behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur to make a top-four finish an unlikely target for Arsene Wenger and his players.
The north London side can still secure a spot in next season’s Champions League if Arsenal win the Europa League.
However, Wenger’s outfit will have to get past La Liga giants Atletico Madrid to secure a place in the Europa League final.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen believes Arsenal will secure a morale-boosting win over West Ham in the London derby at the Emirates Stadium ahead of their Europa League semi-final.
“I thought Arsenal played well for long periods at St James’s Park but the bottom line is they have now lost five successive away league games for the first time since 1984. That is simply not good enough for a club of Arsenal’s heritage,” Owen told BetVictor.
“The Gunners home form remains good, however, and I expect them to go into Thursday’s Europa League semi-final with Atletico Madrid with three points safely tucked away from this London Derby.”
Arsenal missed out on a top-four place for the first time under Wenger last season after the Gunners finished behind Liverpool FC.
The north London side have won the FA Cup in three of the past four seasons but Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004.
