Martin Keown states his prediction for AS Roma v Liverpool FC
The Arsenal legend is backing Liverpool FC to reach the Champions League final
Martin Keown is confident that Liverpool FC will maintain their lead over AS Roma to book their place in the Champions League final.
The Reds took a big step towards the European showpiece following a rousing 5-2 victory over the Serie A giants at Anfield on Tuesday.
Mohamed Salah scored twice against his former club in the first half before the Egypt international created goals for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Liverpool FC conceded two late goals to offer AS Roma a lifeline ahead of the return leg in the Italian capital next week.
The Reds have won their last two Champions League games on the road following 5-0 win at FC Porto in the last 16 before a 2-1 victory at Manchester City in the previous round.
AS Roma, though, were 3-0 winners against FC Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico in the second leg of their quarter-final to overturn a 4-1 deficit from the first leg.
Former Arsenal defender Keown believes the Reds should make the Champions League final barring a disaster in the Italian capital.
“Liverpool have to finish the job against Roma,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“The Italians scored three against the might of Barcelona and will feel they can do it again.
“Liverpool, too, can draw upon experience of going to the Etihad with a three-goal lead and beating Manchester City 2-1.
“If Roma score first it could become incredibly tense but with Liverpool’s Red Arrows front line you feel they could score at any moment.
“Jurgen Klopp is the ultimate motivator. Even with the late goals his side conceded, he will not have seen any negatives in their first leg display.
“From here, it would be an absolute disaster if they went out now.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League since 2005.
