Steven Gerrard has defended Antonio Conte’s record at Chelsea FC after the Blues reached consecutive FA Cup finals.

The west London side were 2-0 winners against Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday courtesy of goals from Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea FC will have to beat Manchester United to get their hands on the FA Cup trophy after the Red Devils eased to a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Blues suffered a 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup showpiece last term to miss out on a domestic double in Conte’s first season.

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season after the Blues finished seven points ahead of Tottenham.

Conte is coming under pressure following a disappointing defence of their top-flight crown to promot speculation surrounding the Italian’s job.

Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard believes Conte deserves credit for reaching successive FA Cup finals.

“Gerrard on Conte: I think Conte deserves praise. He’s been here for nearly two years,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“He’s won the league and got to two finals. Yes, he lost the cup last year. But if he wins the cup this year, what a fantastic job he’s done. But he will be judged on the league form which has been disappointing this season.”

The Blues are in fifth place in the Premier League table and five points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea FC lost 4-1 to FC Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16, while Arsenal were 2-1 winners against the Blues in the League Cup semi-final.
