Antonio Conte told not to sell Chelsea FC star to Man United
Garth Crooks believes selling Willian to Manchester United would be a big mistake for Chelsea FC
Garth Crooks has warned Chelsea FC that selling Willian to Manchester United would be handing the Red Devils the Premier League title.
The Brazil international has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Chelsea FC team since Antonio Conte’s appointment in 2016.
The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season before the defending champions made the surprise decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.
The Serbia international has become a key player for Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, while his replacement Tiemoue Bakayoko has struggled to impress in his first season at Chelsea FC.
Willian has become an important member of Conte’s team in recent months to fuel speculation surrounding his future as he continues to be linked with a reunion with Mourinho at Manchester United.
Former Spurs forward Crooks warned Chelsea FC against the perils of selling Willian to Manchester United in the 2018 summer transfer window.
“Rumours that Manchester United have their sights set on Willian make for interesting reading,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“Does this mean Paul Pogba or Juan Mata might be surplus to requirements? The bigger question is whether Chelsea would sell another one of their star players to United. If so, Antonio Conte might as well give Mourinho the contact details of the company which engraves the Premier League trophy while he’s at it.”
Willian has scored six goals and has made seven assists in 32 appearances in the Premier League in the current campaign.
The Brazilian forward produced a man of the match performance in Chelsea FC’s 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona in the first leg of their last-16 clash before the Spanish side won 4-1 in the return leg to knock the Blues out of the Champions League.
