The Danish defender spent two years on loan to the German club before returning to the west London club in the summer transfer window last year.
Christensen has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for Chelsea FC this season and Antonio Conte has trusted him to start in the heart of the Blues’ defence this term.
The 22-year-old has made 24 Premier League appearances for Chelsea FC this season and has earned praise for his strong performances at the back for the Blues.
And the player himself believes that he has benefitted greatly from his temporary loan spell to the Bundesliga side in recent years.
Speaking to Chelsea magazine, Christensen said: “I’ve heard people from the outside say I went out on loan as a kid and I’ve come back as a first-team player, and I think that was the main objective/
“I’ve come back a little bit stronger in everything, both in terms of personality and the way I play.
“I think I’ve come back a little bit cleverer because I always think about what could happen next on the pitch, what could go wrong. I’ve come back a bit wiser and more experienced.”
The Blues were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon to further dent their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.
The west London side are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table and 10 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with just six games left to play this term.
