Antonio Conte has talked up Alvaro Morata’s “important” role in the Chelsea FC team after he helped to fire the Blues into the FA Cup final with a 2-0 win over Southampton on Sunday.

Morata started the game on the bench as Conte preferred Olivier Giroud up front for the west London side, and the French striker gave the Blues the lead with a fine goal early in the second half.

The former Juventus star then came off the bench and netted Chelsea FC’s second goal when he headed home Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross at Wembley to secure their spot in the final against Manchester United.

The Spanish striker has endured a mixed first season at Chelsea FC after having signed for the Blues from Real Madrid last summer.

However, Conte has insisted that he is pleased with Morata’s impact and says that the 25-year-old still has plenty of room for improvement at Chelsea FC.

Speaking at his post-match news conference at Wembley on Sunday, Conte said: “Morata is an important striker.

“He is younger than Olivier and has less experience. He is less strong physically, but he is very fast to attack the space.”

Morata will be hoping to feature for Chelsea FC when the Blues return to Premier League action on Saturday with a crunch clash against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

The west London side are currently fifth in the Premier League table.
