Antonio Conte drops hint about Emerson ahead of Chelsea FC v Southampton
Antonio Conte hints that Emerson Palmieri could start for Chelsea FC against Southampton on Sunday
Antonio Conte has hinted that Emerson Palmieri could start for Chelsea FC in their FA Cup semi-final clash against Southampton on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Brazilian has been settling into life at Stamford Bridge since having signed from Italian side Roma in the January transfer window.
Emerson has been struggling with fitness issues in recent months but he made his first Premier League start of the season for the Blues when he helped Chelsea FC beat Burnley 2-1 on Thursday night.
It was only his fourth appearance of the season in all competitions for Chelsea FC since his switch to the west London club.
With Marcos Alonso set to be suspended for the clash against Southampton on Sunday, Conte was asked if Emerson could replace him in the line-up once again.
However, the Blues boss gave a coy response and refused to confirm or deny his plans for the Brazilian full-back.
Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Friday, Conte said:
Chelsea FC are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table as they look to try and catch Spurs in the race for Champions League qualification.
The west London side reached the FA Cup final last season but they were beaten by Arsenal at Wembley.
