Gary Lineker took to social media to praise Olivier Giroud after the striker helped to fire Chelsea FC into the FA Cup final at the expense of Southampton.

The Blues headed into the game looking to build on their victory over Burnley in midweek in the Premier League.

After a goalless first half at Wembley, Giroud broke the deadlock in the 46th minute when he danced through the Southampton defence and poked home into the empty net.

Substitute Alvaro Morata then made it 2-0 shortly after coming on when he headed home Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross.

England legend Lineker was clearly impressed by Giroud’s opening goal and took to social media to salute the striker’s effort.

Lineker wrote on Twitter after he scored: “Giroud just turned into Messi…sort of.”

Giroud has been in decent form for Chelsea FC in recent weeks following his switch from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

He has scored four goals and made one assist in all competitions as he look to try and earn a spot in the French World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament.

Chelsea FC will now gear up for an FA Cup final showdown against Manchester United at Wembley next month as they look to try and finish what has been a difficult season on a high.

The Blues won the Premier League in Antonio Conte’s first season at the club last term.
