Paul Merson is backing Chelsea FC to finish in the top four this season – as long as they beat Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The west London side currently find themselves in fifth place in the Premier League table as they look to try and break back into the Champions League qualification spots before the season is out.

The Blues know that victory over Spurs at Stamford Bridge this weekend would lift them to within two points of the Lilywhites and reignite the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title in style in what was Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge at the club last season.

However, they have struggled to find consistent form in the top flight this term and that has left them fighting for a top-four finish and the FA Cup this season.

Former Arsenal star Merson believes that Chelsea FC will be able to finish in the top four this season as long as they secure victory over Spurs at Stamford Bridge in the crunch Premier League clash on Sunday.

Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “If they do [beat Tottenham], they still have a great chance of finishing in the Champions League places.

“It’s time to show they mean business.”

Chelsea FC have won the title in two of the last three seasons.
