The Daily Mirror is reporting that Chelsea FC are leading the race to sign the Belgian defender, who has been heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in recent weeks.
The same report also states that Manchester United are keen on a move for the defender, with Spurs currently refusing to meet his demands for a new deal worth £150,000 a week.
The story says that Chelsea FC believe that they have a good chance of being able to sign Alderweireld this summer because of his current contract situation at White Hart Lane.
The 29-year-old’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2019, but it includes a one-year extension option, which would keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020.
However, the contract is also thought to contain a £25m release clause, which could be activated in the summer of 2019, meaning that Spurs could look to try and cash in this summer instead.
According to the same report, Tottenham would want a transfer fee of around £55m for the defender this summer.
