The Blues fell behind in the 21st minute at St Mary’s when Dusan Tadic gave the home side the lead.
And Southampton doubled their lead on the hour-mark when Jan Bednarek netted a second to seemingly put the Saints in control.
However, substitute Olivier Giroud netted in the 70th minute to pull one back for Antonio Conte’s men, before Eden Hazard made it 2-2 shortly after.
And January singing Giroud then netted the winner in the 78th minute to complete the dramatic turnaround and secure the three points for Conte’s side.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Football’s global comeback week continues as Chelsea come from 2 down at Southampton to level things.”
After Giroud’s winner, he added: “And continues further. 3-2 to Chelsea. There’s something afoot.”
The win still leaves Chelsea FC with some considerable work to do if they are to break back into the top four this season.
Chelsea FC are currently fifth in the table and seven points behind Tottenham Hotspur, with just five games left to play this season.
The Blues will take on Southampton once again in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley later this month as they at least try to end the season with a trophy.
