The defending Premier League champions have endured a difficult defence of their title after the Blues finished seven points clear of Spurs at the top of the table last term.
Chelsea FC are in fifth place in the Premier League table and 33 points adrift of runaway leaders Manchester City following a difficult second season at Old Trafford.
The Blues are five points behind Tottenham but can move to within two points of Mauricio Pochettino’s side if the title holders can emerge victorious in the London derby.
The west London outfit have lost four of their last six games in the Premier League to leave Chelsea FC with an uphill battle to secure a Champions League spot.
Tottenham have won five of their last six Premier League games to cement their top-four challenge but Spurs striker Harry Kane is currently sidelined with an injury.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson believes the defending champions will secure a vital win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
“This is Chelsea’s big chance to narrow the gap on Tottenham in the race for the top four, and it feels like a game they have to win if they are going overhaul them,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“It should be a lively one because there is not much love lost between the two teams.
“They will both be raring to go after the international break because they are both out of Europe, but I am going to go with Chelsea to win it.”
Chelsea FC signed Ross Barkley, Emerson Palmieri and Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window.
