Chelsea FC are lining up a summer transfer bid to try and sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the Blues are keen to make a move to try and bring the Belgian to Stamford Bridge as they look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next season.

According to the same story, Alderweireld is rated at around £45m and is wanted by Chelsea FC after failing to agree a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 29-year-old defender has one year left on his current contract with Tottenham and is “firmly” on Chelsea FC’s radar, according to the same story.

The same article says that both Manchester United and Manchester City have also been keeping tabs on Alderweireld, but it seems that Chelsea FC are now leading the race for his signature.

Chelsea FC are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table as they look to try and pip Tottenham Hotspur to a top-four finish this season.

The Blues are aiming to end the season on a high by beating Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley next month.
