Michael Owen is confident FC Barcelona will secure a first-leg win against AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night.

The Spanish outfit are looking to win their first Champions League title since 2015 when FC Barcelona beat Juventus to win the treble.

AS Roma, on the other hand, have never made it past the quarter-final stage of Europe’s elite competition.

Remarkably, the Italian club have a decent record against FC Barcelona after losing just one of their four meetings.

However, the most recent Champions League clash between the two clubs resulted in a resounding 6-1 win for FC Barcelona at Camp Nou.

FC Barcelona are the only team still unbeaten in this season’s La Liga campaign after Lionel Messi netted a dramatic equaliser in added time.

Former Real Madrid striker Owen is backing FC Barcelona to secure a first-leg win at Camp Nou on Wednesday night ahead of the return leg at Stadio Olimpico next week.

“Roma have never made it beyond the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League and I expect Barcelona to take a lead back to the Italian capital next week,” Owen told BetVictor.

“Roma have a raft of injury concerns ahead of the game in the Nou Camp while Barca were able to rest Lionel Messi for over an hour against Sevilla at the weekend before he almost single-handedly snatched a point for the champions-elect.

“Barcelona are unbeaten in their last nine Champions League ties and have conceded only two goals in those games. Roma have only won one of their last 13 Champions League games on the road and I cannot see past a comfortable home win.”

FC Barcelona were 4-1 winners against Chelsea FC in the round of 16 to secure their place in the Champions League last eight.

AS Roma beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the previous round to secure their place in the quarter-final draw.
