Martin Keown has warned Liverpool FC that an early goal from Manchester City on Tuesday night will completely change the mood of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The Reds took a big step towards booking their place in the semi-finals of Europe’s elite club competition by claiming an impressive 3-0 victory over the Citizens at Anfield last week.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane in the first half wrapped up a comfortable win for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who were able to shut up shop and keep the Citizens at bay in the second half.

Liverpool FC now turn their attentions towards the all-important return leg at The Etihad on Tuesday night.

The Reds know that if they score, Manchester City will have to net five times to secure their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, Arsenal legend Keown has warned the Reds not to underestimate the threat posed by Manchester City as they prepare for the return leg at The Etihad next week.

Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Keown said: “An early goal from City next week changes the whole mood of the stadium, and they can take inspiration from Barcelona’s comeback against Paris Saint-Germain last season.”

Liverpool FC are aiming to finish in the top four for the second season running this term as they bid to secure Champions League qualification for next season.
