Steven Gerrard reacts to Mo Salah’s display in Liverpool FC’s 5-2 win over AS Roma
Steven Gerrard gushes about Mo Salah after Liverpool FC's dominant 5-2 win over AS Roma in the Champions League semi-final first leg
Steven Gerrard admitted that he is running out of superlatives to describe Mohamed Salah after the Egypt international inspired Liverpool FC to a 5-2 win over AS Roma in the Champions League semi-final first leg.
The 25-year-old continued his brilliant form this season by scoring twice in the first half to set the Reds on their way towards victory.
Salah opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a brilliant finish into the top corner, before he made it 2-0 when he dinked the ball over Alisson before half-time.
Salah then set up Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino’s goals early in the second half.
Firmino headed home a corner in the 68th minute to net Liverpool FC’s fifth, before Edin Dzeko netted a goal for Roma in the 81st minute.
And Diego Perotti netted a penalty to pull another goal back for Roma in the 86th minute after James Milner was adjudged to have handled in the box.
Salah has been one of European football’s top performing players this season, and Liverpool FC legend Gerrard admitted that he is running out of words to describe the attacker.
Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Gerrard said: “Wow. I’m running out of words really.
“Two exquisite finishes. The first one had the accuracy, in terms of knocking the stanchion off.
“It was special. And the second one… to get in and sit the keeper down with his calmness.”
Liverpool FC will look to book their place in the Champions League final against either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich when they head to Rome for the return leg next week.
The Reds will first host Stoke in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime.
