Frank Lampard: What I really think about Liverpool FC after 5-2 win over AS Roma
The Chelsea FC legend believes Liverpool FC are a "formidable team" after a 5-2 win against AS Roma on Tuesday night
Frank Lampard hailed Liverpool FC as a “formidable team” after Tuesday night’s 5-2 win against AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
The Reds broke the deadlock in the 35th minute thanks to Mohamed Salah’s brilliant clinical finish to take his tally to 42 goals in all competitions this season.
The Egypt international doubled his tally on the stroke of half-time thanks to Salah’s chipped finish over Liverpool FC target Alisson in the Roma goal.
Salah turned provider in the second half with assists for Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane before the Brazilian forward polished off what looked like being a commanding 5-0 win.
However, Liverpool FC paid the price for taking the foot off the pedal after late goals from Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti left AS Roma with a fighting chance ahead of the second leg in the Italian capital next week.
Former Chelsea FC star Lampard delivered his glowing verdict on Liverpool FC following thir five impressive goals during what was a one-sided Champions League encounters until the final 10 minutes.
“They are a formidable team at the moment. They’re great to watch,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“They were slow in the first 20 minutes and then started to get a head of steam. They’re fast in attack and defensively more sound now. It was all Liverpool for 80 minutes and now we’ve got a bit of interest in the second leg when it looked like it was all over. But yes, it was a great game and great performance from Liverpool.”
Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and will take on Stoke City this weekend ahead of their trip to Italy.
