Michael Owen hailed another memorable European night at Anfield following Liverpool FC’s 5-2 victory over AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.

The Reds welcomed the Italian giants to Merseyside following their 5-1 demolition of Manchester City over two legs in the previous round of Europe’s top tier competition earlier this month.

Liverpool FC were 3-0 winners against the Citizens in the first leg at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp would have been hoping for a similar performance against the Serie A giants on Tuesday night.

While AS Roma managed to peg back Liverpool FC in the opening 20 minutes before the home side started to test Brazil international Alisson in the visitors’ goal.

PFA player of the year Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a clinical finish just inside the AS Roma penalty area before the Egyptian dinked a finish over Alisson on the stroke of half-time.

Liverpool FC made it 3-0 in the 56th minute when Sadio Mane finally got on the score sheet after a number of misses in the first half before Roberto Firmino finished from close range following Salah’s superb cross.

The South American scored a header from the corner to make it 5-0 before late goals from Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti kept AS Roma alive in the tie.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen took to Twitter to react to their 5-2 win.

Owen wrote on Twitter: “WHAT A NIGHT. This will live long in the memory.”
