Michael Owen heaped praise on Mohamed Salah for his outstanding performance in Liverpool FC’s 5-2 win against AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.

Salah lined up against his former club for the first time since Liverpool FC signed the Egypt international in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window.

The African forward scored his 31st Premier League goal of the season last weekend to equal the record held by former Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez and Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Salah broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a clinical finish from inside the area before the PFA player of the year doubled his side’s lead with a dink over Alisson on the stroke of half-time.

The 25-year-old turned provider with assists for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the second half before Danny Ings replaced the winger ahead of the second leg in the Italian capital next week.

Owen took to Twitter to lavish praise on the African forward for his 42nd and 43rd goals of the 2017-18 season.

Owen wrote on Twitter: “Booooooooooooom!!!!!!! The man is a machine. @mosalah”

He added: “Is there anyone in the world as good as @mosalah at present?”

Liverpool FC are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2005.
