The Reds brought in the Netherlands international in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.
Van Dijk was brought in to reinforce the Liverpool FC defence following a series of leaky performances in the first half of the season.
The Dutch centre-half has helped Liverpool FC to keep seven clean sheets in their last 11 games in all competitions.
Van Dijk produced a brilliant performance in Liverpool FC’s 3-0 win against Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final last week.
The Reds signing managed to recover from a difficult start at The Etihad to help Liverpool FC secure a 2-1 win at Manchester City in the second leg to secure their progress.
Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard was keen to stress Van Dijk’s impact on the Liverpool FC team since his arrival in a world record deal for a defender.
“I think this Liverpool team, with the arrival of Van Dijk, have found a big piece in the jigsaw,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“They’ve always looked dangerous going forward under Jurgen since he walked in the door. They’ve always looked threatening. But they’ve had a weakness at the back.
“The arrival of Van Dijk has had such a big lift on everyone around him. He’s lifted Lovren, he’s helping the two full-backs out immensely and I think he’s even helping the goalkeeper.”
Liverpool FC are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since Gerrard lifted the European Cup in Istanbul in 2005.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table.
