Steven Gerrard has told Jordan Henderson that he will become a Liverpool FC legend if the Reds win the Champions League title this season.

The England international marshalled the Liverpool FC midfield in an impressive 5-2 victory over Serie A giants AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.

Henderson won three tackles and propelled Liverpool FC forward with his sharp passing to allow Jurgen Klopp’s side to surge into a 5-0 lead in the opening 70 minutes in the first leg.

The 27-year-old is still waiting to lift his first trophy as Liverpool FC captain after the dynamic midfielder replaced Gerrard in the role at the end of the 2014-15 season under Brendan Rodgers.

Henderson was unable to help Liverpool FC avoid a defeat in the Europa League final and the League Cup showpiece in 2016 following Klopp’s appointment eight months earlier.

Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard explained what Henderson needs to do to secure his place in Reds history.

“I think he needs a moment, I think he needs a trophy just to get over that line and get those few supporters who are not on his side, right on his side,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“If he delivers this Champions League, he’ll be a legend here forever.”

Liverpool FC signed Henderson in a £20m deal from Sunderland in the 2011 summer transfer window under Kenny Dalglish.

The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table ahead of their clash against Stoke City this weekend.
