Steven Gerrard reserved special praise for Jordan Henderson and James Milner for their impressive performances in Liverpool FC’s 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League.

The Reds welcomed the Premier League rivals to Anfield in the first leg of their quarter-final on Wednesday night looking to secure successive victories over the Citizens.

Liverpool were 4-3 winners against Manchester City in the Premier League on Merseyside earlier this year to end the Eastlands outfit’s unbeaten start to the 2017-18 campaign.

The 18-time English champions surged into a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane at Anfield.

Henderson and Milner helped Liverpool FC to get the upperhand in midfield and keep Manchester City trio Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and David Silva at bay.

Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard heaped praise on Henderson and Milner for their outstanding contributions in the Reds’ thrilling Champions League win.

“I think the word to use is ‘perfect’. There were two sides of Liverpool tonight which impressed me,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“I thought they carried out the game-plan as a whole really well. In the first half they were typical, on the front foot and aggressive.

“I thought James Milner and Jordan Henderson were excellent at regaining the ball and then they really showed what they’re strong at, which is counter-attacks at pace and then scoring quality goals.

“In the second half you’re always going to suffer at times against City and really work hard for each other.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds haven’t won the Champions League crown since 2005 when Liverpool FC came from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul.
