Steven Gerrard: Liverpool FC stronger team with this Jurgen Klopp-type player
The Liverpool FC legend heaps praise on Jordan Henderson after Tuesday night's 5-2 win against AS Roma
Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool FC are a better team with Jordan Henderson.
The England international was handed the captain’s armband at the start of the 2015-16 season following Gerrard’s move to Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy.
Henderson managed to turnaround his Reds career under Klopp’s successor Brendan Rodgers before the German head coach took over the reins in October 2015.
The 27-year-old English midfielder has become a key part of Klopp’s team over the past two and a half seasons despite a string of injury problems.
Henderson won three tackles in Liverpool FC’s 5-2 win against Serie A giants AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
The former Sunderland midfielder is on the brink of emulating Gerrard with the prospect of captaining Liverpool FC in a Champions League showpiece.
Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard singled out Henderson for special praise following the Merseyside outfit’s 5-2 demolition of AS Roma.
“I’ve played with Jordan, I know what he’s about,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“He’s a very humble kid. He’s very selfless and he works his socks off. I think he’s a Klopp-type player.
“I believe this Liverpool team are stronger with him in the team.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League since 2005 when the Reds beat AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul.
The Merseyside outfit lost 2-1 to Serie A giants AC Milan in Athens two seasons later.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table with three games to play.
