The Man United legend rubbishes Steven Gerrard's claim about Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah
Roy Keane has rubbished Steven Gerrard’s claim that Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world on current form.
The Egypt international moved to Liverpool FC from Serie A giants AS Roma in a £39m deal in the 2017 summer transfer window.
The Reds forward has scored an incredible 43 goals in his first season at Liverpool FC to move to within four of Ian Rush’s record.
The 25-year-old scored twice and made two assists in Liverpool FC’s 5-2 win against AS Roma in the first leg of the Champions League last four.
BT Sport pundit Gerrard, who played with great Liverpool FC forward such as Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres during his career, declared that Salah is the best player in the world following his performance against AS Roma.
When asked about Gerrard’s claim during ITV Sport‘s Champions League highlights show, former Manchester United captain Keane rubbished Gerrard’s claim.
“He’s obviously being nominated for the big awards going out there,” Keane said.
“He has been compared to Ronaldo and Messi and these boys have all scored at least 40 goals this season.
“I think you still need to end up with one or two trophies with your club [to be classed the world’s best].”
Salah has the chance to break a Premier League record held by Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo if he scores his 32nd goal of the season against Stoke City on Saturday.
The Egyptian forward managed to see off competition from Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne to win the PFA player of the year award last weekend.
