Roy Keane has praised Jurgen Klopp for improving the Liverpool FC defence over the past few months.

The Reds booked their place in the Champions League semi-final draw after a 5-1 aggregate win against Manchester City in the last eight.

The Premier League leaders have scored 90 times in 32 games in the Premier League this term, including eight goals against Liverpool FC at Anfield and The Etihad.

However, Klopp’s side managed to keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win against Manchester City in the first leg before surviving an onslaught in the second leg to emerge with a 2-1 victory.

Liverpool FC signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a club record £75m deal from Southampton in the January transfer window.

The world’s most expensive defender has brought out the best in goalkeeper Loris Karius, centre-half partner Dejan Lovren and left-back Andy Robertson.

Former Manchester United captain Keane credited Klopp for making improvements to his back four following their Champions League heroics on Tuesday night.

“They have improved defensively over the last few months and I think you have to give the manager and the players a lot of credit for that,” Keane told ITV Sport.

Liverpool FC will take on Bournemouth in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2005 when Liverpool FC beat AC Milan on penalties.
