Ian Wright: What Liverpool FC star Mo Salah need to do to win Ballon d’Or
The Arsenal legend claims Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah needs to win the Champions League to be considered for the Ballon d'Or
Ian Wright believes Mohamed Salah will be in the running to win the Ballon d’Or if Liverpool FC win the Champions League this season.
The Reds forward scored twice in Liverpool FC’s 5-2 victory over AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash.
Liverpool FC eased to a comfortable win after Salah teed up Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to extend their lead over the Serie A giants.
The Egypt international has scored 11 times in 13 games in the Champions League this season to help the Reds reach the semi-finals.
Salah has netted 31 goals in 33 games in the Premier League to win the PFA player of the year ahead of Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.
The 25-year-old Liverpool FC star is four goals shy of equalling Ian Rush’s Liverpool FC record of 43 goals in all competitions.
Former Arsenal striker Wright explained what Salah needs to do to get his hands on the Ballon d’Or this season.
“He is in that conversation. You’d like to think he’d go into the World Cup and keep that form,” Wright told Sky Sports.
“If Liverpool go forward and win it, if you look at Ronaldo, he has saved a lot of his best work for the Champions League and has won the Ballon d’Or a couple of times.
“If Salah can continue his form and win the Champions League, he’s not just going to be in the running – you’ve got to say he would have a good chance of winning it.”
Salah has netted 43 goals in all competitions in the 2017-18 season following a £39m move to Liverpool FC from AS Roma last summer.
