Ray Parlour believes Liverpool FC didn’t anticipate Mohamed Salah having a such a big success in the Premier League this term.
The Reds signed the Egypt international in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC brought in Salah despite his disappointing 14-month spell at Chelsea FC before he moved to Fiorentina in 2014.
Salah hit the ground running with a goal in his Premier League debut for Liverpool FC in a 3-3 draw with Watford in their Premier League opener.
The African forward hasn’t looked back after a sensational return of 29 goals in 31 games in the Premier League this term.
The 25-year-old has also scored nine times in 11 games in the Champions League to help Liverpool FC reach the last four.
Former Arsenal star Parlour doesn’t believe Liverpool FC could have anticipated Salah having such a prolific season following his move last summer.
“It was a cool finish,” Parlour told Sky Sports.
“He is one of those guys who waits until the last minute and then makes a decision. It is an amazing return.
“I don’t think Klopp or Liverpool expected Salah to come into Liverpool and score 39 goals in his first season.”
Salah and Liverpool FC will take on the Egyptian’s former club AS Roma in the Champions League semi-finals later this month.
The Reds haven’t won the Champions League since 2005 after Liverpool FC beat AC Milan on penalties after coming from 3-0 down to rescue a 3-3 draw in normal time.
