The England midfielder scored a sensational goal in Liverpool FC’s 3-0 win against Premier League leaders Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has become an important member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad following his £35m switch to Liverpool FC from Arsenal on transfer deadline day last summer.
The 24-year-old has scored five goals and has made five assists in 37 games in all competitions to make a steady start to his Anfield career.
Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared to lose his way at Arsenal during his final couple of seasons at The Emirates after winning three FA Cup titles during his seven-season spell at the north London club.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand questioned why Oxlade-Chamberlain was unable to produce the same level of performance at Arsenal.
“What a strike,” Ferdinand told BT Sport. “It’s an absolute thunderbolt. We never saw this in an Arsenal shirt.
“It was a slow start at Liverpool but he’s gathering momentum at a crucial part of the season. He’s becoming a really important player for this Liverpool side.
“He’s getting games, he knows what he’s meant to be doing, he’s getting in the team. He’s got a game plan and he’s carrying it out perfectly at the moment.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain turned down the chance to sign a lucrative contract extension at Arsenal last summer.
The England star reportedly rejected a move to Chelsea FC despite undergoing a medical in favour of a switch to Liverpool FC.
Liverpool FC will take on Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday.
