Rio Ferdinand: Jurgen Klopp has handled Liverpool FC star ‘tremendously’
The Man United legend lavishes praise on Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp for getting the best out of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Rio Ferdinand heaped praise on Jurgen Klopp for getting the best out of Liverpool FC star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The England international completed a £40m move to Liverpool FC from Arsenal on deadline day in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain turned down the chance to sign a new contract with the north London side, while the England star rejected a potential move to Chelsea FC.
The 24-year-old made a slow start to his Liverpool FC career before the versatile midfielder earned a place in Klopp’s starting XI.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored five goals and seven assists in 37 games in all competitions in an impressive first season for the England midfielder.
The summer signing scored Liverpool FC’s second goal in a 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career was starting to stagnate at Arsenal following six and a half seasons at the north London club.
Former Manchester United defender credited Klopp with procuring some great performances from Oxlade-Chamberlain this term.
“He’s been fantastic since he’s come,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“I think Klopp has handled him tremendously.
“As a defender, when the opposing midfielder turns and breaks and starts running at you, that creates panic.
“After that, it’s about decision making and at the moment he’s making the right decisions.
“He receives the ball and goes direct at the heart of the defence, and that just causes panic. People don’t know how to react when that comes from midfield.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
The Reds haven’t won the Champions League crown since 2005 when Liverpool FC beat AC Milan on penalties.
