Rio Ferdinand admits Liverpool FC have the best player in the world
The Manchester United legend believes Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world
Rio Ferdinand has admitted that Liverpool FC have the best player in the world on current form following Mohamed Salah’s two goals in Tuesday night’s 5-2 win over AS Roma in the Champions League semi-finals at Anfield.
Salah was named the PFA player of the year last weekend after the Reds forward saw off competition from Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne for the end of the season award.
The African forward has scored 31 goals in 33 games in the Premier League this season to equal the record for an individual campaign held by Liverpool FC legend Luis Suarez and Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 25-year-old has netted 11 times in 13 outings in the Champions League to help Liverpool FC reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign under Rafael Benitez.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world at the moment.
“Did we expect it at the beginning of the season? No. But he’s shown here that you can go away, work at your game and you can come back and go beyond what anyone would imagine,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“His finishing tonight [against Roma], he’s got to be regarded as, in form wise, one of if not the best player on the planet at the moment with the way he’s doing things.
“There isn’t anyone on the pitch when he plays he feels can stop him, nobody can seem to contain him. He gets into positions where defenders are not able to cope with him. He’s been a tremendous asset to this Liverpool team.”
Liverpool FC will make the return trip to the Italian capital in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final next week.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table and on course to finish in the Champions League spots.
