Chris Sutton believes Virgil van Dijk will only improve at Liverpool FC
Chris Sutton believes Virgil van Dijk will only get better at Liverpool FC.
The Reds signed the Netherlands international in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.
Ex-Celtic star Van Dijk became the world’s most expensive defender following his club record switch to Liverpool FC.
The 26-year-old has helped Liverpool FC to reach the Champions League semi-finals after a 5-1 aggregate win against Premier League title holders Manchester City.
The Dutchman has managed to bring out the best in the rest of the Liverpool FC defence, notably Dejan Lovren and Andy Robertson in recent weeks.
Van Dijk has helped the Reds to keep nine clean sheets in their last 14 games in all competitions to highlight Liverpool FC’s defensive improvement.
Former Blackburn and Chelsea FC striker Sutton is confident that Van Dijk will only improve in the Liverpool FC team.
“Van Dijk has been the difference,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Liverpool look more watertight and more secure. He has really stepped up. I don’t see Lovren making the same mistakes at the rate he did. He is only going to get better.”
Liverpool FC were 3-0 winners against Bournemouth in the Premier League at Anfield last weekend thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table and a point adrift of Manchester United.
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League since 2005 but the Reds will take on AS Roma for a place in the final.
