The Reds will host the Premier League leaders in the opening leg of their last-eight tie looking to upset the odds with a win against Pep Guardiola’s dominant Manchester City outfit.
Liverpool FC can take confidence from their 4-3 win against the Citizens at Anfield back in February when goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah ended Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the season.
The Merseyside outfit recorded famous victories over Juventus and Chelsea FC at Anfield en route to winning the Champions League crown in 2005, before beating Inter Milan, Arsenal and the Blues again to reach the final in 2007.
Other memorable scalps include a 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid in 2009 and a dramatic 4-3 comeback win against Jurgen Klopp’s former team Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League quarter-finals in 2016.
Former Arsenal striker Wright warned Manchester City that Liverpool FC will be a different proposition at Anfield on a European night.
“We’ve heard what Liverpool are like in the league,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Man City’s players will experience a difference atmosphere in terms of the noise. Liverpool, on a European night, are a different side.”
Liverpool FC lost 5-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League back in September.
