Gary Lineker singled out Mohamed Salah for special praise after the Egypt international continued his brilliant form for Liverpool FC by helping to fire his side through to the Champions League semi-finals at the expense of Manchester City with a 2-1 win.

The Reds headed into the game on the back of their impressive 3-0 win over the Citizens in the first leg of the quarter-final tie at The Etihad last week.

However, Manchester City got off to the perfect start when Gabriel Jesus finished past Loris Karius in the second minute.

But Liverpool FC held firm and managed to get to half-time without conceding another goal.

And man of the moment Salah then netted the Reds’ crucial away goal with a brilliant chipped finish in the 56th minute at The Etihad.

That goal all but put the tie to bed despite it coming so early in the first half.

Roberto Firmino cemented Liverpool FC’s progress with a cool finish in off the post in the 77th minute.

And England legend Lineker was clearly impressed by Salah and his display for the Reds against Pep Guardiola’s men.

Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Who else but Salah – surely clinched it for Liverpool. Clever little bugger.”

Liverpool FC will now await the semi-final draw on Friday to find out who their opponents in the last four will be.
