The Reds signed the Netherlands international in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the 2018 January transfer window.
Van Dijk became the world’s most expensive defender following his eventual switch to the Merseyside outfit earlier this year.
The 26-year-old has already improved the Liverpool FC defence following six clean sheets in their last 10 games in all competitions.
However, Liverpool FC lost 2-1 to Manchester United in Van Dijk’s biggest game in a Reds shirt after he missed the Reds’ thrilling 4-3 win over Manchester City at Anfield back in February.
The Citizens were 5-0 winners against Liverpool FC at The Etihad in the Premier League back in September, although Sadio Mane’s sending off played a big role in that result.
Former Arsenal striker Wright wants to see Van Dijk justify his price tag with a big performance in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night.
“This is the reason why Liverpool signed Van Dijk,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“They need him to win those games. The goalkeeping situation is going to be integral over the two legs.
“There is no way over 180 minutes that Karius or Mignolet isn’t going to make a mistake.”
Liverpool FC are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2005 when the Reds managed to beat AC Milan on penalties after coming from 3-0 down to rescue a 3-3 draw.
