The Egypt international has been one of the Reds’ standout performers this season and has earned plenty of praise for his strong performances for the Merseyside outfit since his transfer from AS Roma last summer.
Salah netted Liverpool FC’s opening goal against the Citizens and also set up Sadio Mane’s header with a quality cross.
The 25-year-old has scored an astounding 29 goals in 31 Premier League games for the Reds so far this season since his move to the club last summer.
And England legend Shearer was particularly impressed with what he saw from Salah during Wednesday’s game, before an injury forced him off in the second half.
Writing in his column for Coral, Shearer said: “When you look at the two players of the season, De Bruyne and Salah, it was Salah who was superb in this game which could go a long way in determining who wins the award for Player of the Year.
“I know Salah had to go off with injury but when he was on the pitch, he was simply outstanding.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC are currently preparing to return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime when they take on Everton at Goodison Park in the top flight.
The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they look to try and secure Champions League qualification for the second season running under Jurgen Klopp.
