Jurgen Klopp warns Liverpool FC ahead of AS Roma return leg
Jurgen Klopp warns his Liverpool FC players that they must "work" against AS Roma next week
Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool FC players that they will have to prepare to “work” against AS Roma next week as they look to book their place in the Champions League final.
The Reds raced into a 5-0 lead in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash at Anfield on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
However, AS Roma netted twice late on through Edin Dzeko and Diego Diego Perrotti to hand the Italian side a lifeline ahead of the return leg at the Stadio Olimpico next week.
The two late away goals have given AS Roma a faint glimmer of hope of reaching the final in Kiev next month despite Liverpool FC’s dominance for most of Tuesday’s game.
And Klopp has insisted that his team will have to prepare to work hard as they look to try and book their place in the final against either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Tuesday night, Klopp said: “Now we have to work again in Rome. That’s no problem.
“There would have been work for us to do if we’d won 5-0 because Roma would have tried everything to strike back anyway. That’s not a big difference.
“And what I learned tonight is that we can win the second game as well, even when it will be different. Roma need to score goals against us.
“I said it a few times and it should not sound like a warning or whatever, but we are not Barcelona.
“They are one of the two or three best teams in the world and they won so many things in the last few years. We didn’t.
“So we will fight with all we have for that result again. It’s much better than I could have expected before the game, but now in the moment of course I feel the two goals we conceded still.”
Liverpool FC will first turn their attentions back towards Premier League affairs this weekend and their home clash against Stoke City on Saturday lunchtime.
