The German midfielder has been struggling with a back injury in recent games and he missed both the trip to Crystal Palace and the Champions League clash with Manchester City.
Klopp is hopeful that the problem is not too serious and that the German midfielder will be back available for selection again when the Reds return to Premier League action against their bitter local rivals this weekend.
Speaking at a news conference before the Champions League clash with City, Klopp said: “He has a training session this afternoon [Tuesday], but even when we could need him really, we cannot rush it. That’s how it is.
“I’m always open to wait for better news but I don’t expect it, to be 100 per cent honest. Maybe then Everton or Tuesday. It should not be too long.”
Can’s future at Anfield has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after he entered into the final few months of his contract at Liverpool FC.
Liverpool FC are understood to have offered the 24-year-old a new deal but he is yet to put pen to paper, meaning that he could leave the Merseyside outfit on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they look to try and finish in the top four this season for the second campaign running.
