Rio Ferdinand lavished praise on Trent Alexander-Arnold after Liverpool FC’s dramatic Champions League victory over Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The Reds sealed an impressive 2-1 victory over the Citizens at The Etihad on Tuesday night to wrap up a 5-1 aggregate win and seal Liverpool FC’s place in the semi-finals.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in the second half turned cancelled out Gabriel Jesus’s opener at The Etihad as the Merseyside outfit reached the last four of Europe’s elite club competition for the first time in a decade.

Alexander-Arnold started the game and was in impressive form as he helped the Reds to claim the victory against Pep Guardiola’s men.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was particularly impressed by the 19-year-old’s performance for Liverpool FC on Tuesday night.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: “The young lad, Trent Alexander-Arnold, was phenomenal today.”

Alexander-Arnold featured for 81 minutes on Tuesday night and he has scored two goals in 24 appearances for the Reds so far this season.

Liverpool FC will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Bournemouth on Saturday night.

The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they look to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
