Roberto Firmino has admitted that the incredible atmosphere generated by Liverpool FC’s fans at Anfield before the clash with Manchester City last week made him feel very emotional.

The Reds were in fine form on Wednesday night as they claimed a dominant 3-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s men on Merseyside to take a big step towards booking their place in the last four of the Champions League.

The atmosphere inside Anfield before and during the game was noticeably impressive as Liverpool FC fans tried to help to give their team the edge over the Premier League leaders.

There were some more unsavoury scenes outside Anfield when the Manchester City team bus was pelted with bottles and flares as it arrived at the ground.

But the atmosphere inside the stadium made for a special European night – and Firmino has openly admitted that it helped him and his team-mates to perform at the highest level against the Citizens.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Firmino said: “When we were on the bus, I was reading about how the reception was going to be.

“I must say, it filled my eyes full of tears! It was very moving for me.

“It only gives us more strength to fight on the field and win the games.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime when they take on Everton in the crunch Merseyside derby clash at Goodison Park.

The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they chase a top-four finish for next season.
