The Reds earned plenty of praise for their display against the Citizens as they took a big step towards the Champions League semi-finals with a comprehensive victory at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring, before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-range effort made it 2-0 to the hosts. And Sadio Mane headed in a third before half-time to give Jurgen Klopp’s men a commanding lead ahead of the return leg next week.
Liverpool FC earned plenty of praise for their approach to the game, and their ability to keep Manchester City out in the second half.
And former Chelsea FC star Lampard was hugely impressed with what he saw from Klopp’s men against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Speaking to BT Sport, Lampard said: “They caught Manchester City by surprise, without a doubt.
“They made them go into areas where they don’t like to be. They didn’t get tight enough. You need to get tight, particularly against players like Mo Salah.
“You give them a yard and that’s enough for him to bend that perfect ball in.”
Liverpool FC are now currently preparing for their Premier League derby clash against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Merseyside outfit are third in the Premier League table as they look to try and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place last term and will be hoping to end up at least third to book their place directly in the group stage.
