Frank Lampard explains how Liverpool FC beat Man City
Frank Lampard delivers his assessment of Liverpool FC's 2-1 win over Man City in the Champions League on Tuesday night
Frank Lampard says Manchester City couldn’t cope against a Liverpool FC’s side who are in brilliant form following their Champions League win over Pep Guardiola’s men.
The Reds produced a brilliant performance once again as they came from a goal down to seal a 2-1 win over the Citizens at The Etihad on Tuesday night to book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Liverpool FC were in fine form last week when they claimed a 3-0 win over Manchester City at Anfield in the first leg and they produced another solid display on Tuesday night to wrap up a 5-1 aggregate victory.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in the second half wrapped up the win for the Reds after Gabriel Jesus had given Manchester City the early lead.
And former Chelsea FC star Lampard feels that Manchester City simply failed to be able to contain a Liverpool FC side who are firing on all cylinders this season.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Lampard said: “The damage was done at Anfield. Man City gave themselves a really tough time [on Wednesday night].
“They approached the game brilliantly in the first half and kept Liverpool pinned back. The only thing they didn’t do was the damage in the box.
“When they got in the box, Liverpool were there to defend it. They could’t find their passes and ended up trying to cross the ball too much.
“They came up against a team who were on a high and who are all performing.”
Liverpool FC will now direct their attention back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Bournemouth on Saturday night.
The Reds will discover their semi-final opponents when the Champions League draw is made on Friday.
