Martin Keown reckons that Vincent Kompany could be a weak link in the Manchester City team ahead of next week’s crunch showdown with Liverpool FC in the Champions League.

Liverpool FC are preparing to take on the Premier League leaders at Anfield in the first leg of their quarter-final clash.

The Reds warmed up for the game by securing a 2-1 comeback victory against Crystal Palace in the top flight on Saturday afternoon, while Manchester City were 3-1 winners at Everton.

Manchester City were beaten 4-3 when they last faced Liverpool FC at Anfield earlier this season and former Arsenal defender Keown feels that 31-year-old Kompany could struggle against the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane on Wednesday night

Speaking to BT Sport, Keown said: “We’ve got a big heavyweight fight coming up tonight and it’s going to be like that in the Champions League at Anfield this week.

“Liverpool might be feeling if you can get in and around Kompany you could be troubling him. Everton did get some joy when they got high up the field.”

Liverpool FC have been in fine form in recent weeks and they are in third place in the Premier League table as they look to seal a top-four finish this term.

Salah scored the winner for the Reds on Saturday at Selhurst Park, taking his tally for the season to 37 goals in all competitions.

Liverpool FC are aiming to finish in the top four and progress as far as possible in the Champions League this season.
