Owen Hargreaves believes that the arrival of Virgil van Dijk has helped the whole Liverpool FC team to defend better.

The Netherlands international signed for the Merseyside outfit from Southampton in the January transfer window and has been a regular fixture at Anfield since his move to the Merseyside club.

Van Dijk has been a constant presence in the Liverpool FC defence and he has been earning plenty of praise for his strong performances for the Reds.

Liverpool FC had faced plenty of criticism for their shortcomings at the back under Jurgen Klopp this season but Van Dijk’s presence in the back four seems to have made things more stable.

Van Dijk helped Liverpool FC to keep a clean sheet in their 3-02 win over Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

And Hargreaves has been impressed by the impact Van Dijk has had at Liverpool FC since his move to the Merseyside outfit.

Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of Saturday’s game, Hargreaves said: “The centre-backs were under pressure and that’s why Virgil van Dijk came in. The whole team is defending better now.”

Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action next weekend when they travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion.

The Reds will then play AS Roma over two legs in the Champions League semi-finals.
