Rio Ferdinand makes admission about Liverpool FC in the Champions League
Rio Ferdinand credits Jurgen Klopp with giving Liverpool FC the belief that they can win the Champions League
Rio Ferdinand has credited Jurgen Klopp with giving Liverpool FC the belief that they can go all the way in the Champions League this season.
The Reds took a big step towards reaching the Champions League final on Tuesday night when they claimed a 5-2 win over AS Roma at Anfield in the first leg of their semi-final clash.
Liverpool FC had raced into a 5-0 lead in front of their home fans but AS Roma netted twice late on to hand the Italian side some hope heading into the return leg next week.
The tie was further dampened for Liverpool FC as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picked up a serious-looking knee injury during the first half of the clash.
Liverpool FC will now prepare for the return leg in Rome on Wednesday night next week as they look to try and secured their spot in the final against either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand had nothing but praise for the job that Klopp has done at Anfield this season.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Ferdinand said: “At the beginning of the competition they wouldn’t have believed that they would have been able to get this far.
“But Klopp has instilled a belief – they’ve beaten Manchester City and now they’re only a few games away from winning it.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Stoke City in front of their home fans at Anfield on Saturday.
They will then switch their attentions to the return leg in Rome on Wednesday.
