The Reds produced a dominant display at Anfield to take a big step towards reaching the semi-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
Mohamed Salah gave Klopp’s men the lead in the 12th minute, before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made it 2-0 with a superb long-range strike shortly after.
And Sadio Mane made it 3-0 when he headed home Salah’s cross in the 31st minute to wrap up a dominant home win for Jurgen Klopp’s men ahead of the return leg at The Etihad next week.
Manchester City were far from at their best as they failed to cope with Liverpool FC’s energetic and disciplined display at Anfield.
However, former Manchester United star Keane feels that the Reds deserve credit for the way in which they were able to outplay and contain Pep Guardiola’s men on Merseyside.
Ex-Red Devils star Keane told ITV Sport on Wednesday night: “It is easy to keep your energy levels up when you’re 3-0 up at home. They were closing the space.
“Man City lacked quality, but give Liverpool credit for that.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they take on Everton at Goodison Park, with Klopp’s men currently in third place in the table.
