Alan Shearer talks up Liverpool FC threat in the Champions League
Alan Shearer talks up Liverpool FC's form in the Champions League this season under Jurgen Klopp
Alan Shearer has admitted that no team will want to face Liverpool FC in the Champions League semi-finals if they make it to the last four.
The Reds were in brilliant form on Wednesday night last week as they secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield to take a big step towards reaching the semi-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
First-half goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane handed Jurgen Klopp’s men a comfortable victory against the Citizens ahead of next week’s return leg.
Liverpool FC will head to The Etihad next Tuesday night knowing that if they score one goal, it will leave Manchester City needing to net five times to secure their progress to the last four.
And former England star Shearer believes that Liverpool FC have demonstrated that they are opponents to be feared in the Champions League this season.
Writing in his column for Coral, Shearer said: “Liverpool will be a threat for anybody still left in the competition if they do qualify after the second leg.
“When you see them play the way they did against Manchester City, it is remarkable that they are not challenging for the Premier League title.
“They totally dominated a team that has been head and shoulders above the rest of the division this season.
“City could have been there for two days and they would not have scored as Liverpool were just rock solid at the back.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC are currently preparing for their crunch Premier League showdown with bitter local rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table as they seek a top four finish to book their place in next season’s Champions League.
