Rio Ferdinand believes Liverpool FC will need to add one or two players to their squad in the summer transfer window.

The Reds welcomed the Serie A giants to Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.

Liverpool FC surged into a 5-0 lead before AS Roma scored two late goals to offer the Italian club some slim hope of a comeback ahead of the return leg in Rome next week.

Mohamed Salah scored twice in the first half before the Egypt international turned provider after he teed up Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

The Brazil international score their fifth goal in a 5-2 win to leave Liverpool FC in a strong position ahead of the second leg in the Italian capital.

Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of Manchester United in runners up spot.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes the Reds are close to being a very formidable team.

“Naby Keita is coming in the summer and I think he’s got one or two pieces to add [in the summer transfer window] and they are going to be a formidable team here,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

Liverpool FC signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.

The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term.
