Paul Merson is backing Manchester City to narrowly beat Manchester United and win the Premier League title at The Etihad on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils will make the short trip across Manchester in Saturday’s late kick-off looking to make Manchester City wait another week to get their hands on the Premier League trophy.

Pep Guardiola’s men will be looking to make amends for their disappointing 3-0 loss to Liverpool FC in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash on Wednesday night.

Manchester City were thoroughly outplayed in the first half following goals from Liverpool FC trio Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane.

The Citizens are 16 points ahead of Manchester United with seven games to play ahead of their derby clash on Saturday evening.

Former Arsenal star Merson is backing Manchester City to ease to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the derby at The Etihad this weekend.

“I expect Man City to win,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“If you could say to Man United a 0-0 draw, I think they’d chop your arm off. I think United will turn up and play for a 0-0, but I just don’t see City not breaking them down before 90 minutes is up. United won’t play the way Liverpool play, they haven’t got the legs to do that all around the pitch.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are on course to secure their best Premier League finish in five seasons under Mourinho.

Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez in a swap deal from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
