Martin Keown has warned Liverpool FC not to underestimate the threat posed by Manchester City in the return leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie next week.

The Reds earned plenty of praise for their strong performance last week as they claimed an impressive 3-0 victory over the Citizens in the first leg of the quarter-final showdown at Anfield.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane handed Jurgen Klopp’s men a comprehensive victory at Anfield and took them a big step closer towards reaching the semi-finals.

Liverpool FC know that if they manage to score one away goal in the return leg on Tuesday night, it would leave Pep Guardiola’s men needing to net five times to progress through to the last four.

However, Arsenal legend Keown believes that the Reds would be wise not to underestimate the threat posed by the Premier League table toppers ahead of the second leg.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Keown said: “Everyone is writing City off, but it wasn’t so long ago we were saying this is the greatest English side we’ve seen in the Premier League era.

“It sounds strange after winning 3-0, but Liverpool face a tough test now.”

Liverpool FC are aiming to finish in the top four for the second season running this season as they bid to seal Champions League qualification under Klopp.

The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season under Klopp.
