Jose Mourinho reassured Man United signing is a ‘big-game player’
Arsenal legend Martin Keown delivers a glowing verdict on Man United signing Alexis Sanchez
Martin Keown insists Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez is still a big-game player.
The Chile international lined up against his former Gunners team-mates for the first time since his controversial transfer.
Sanchez moved to Manchester United in a swap deal from Arsenal in the January transfer window as Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved in the opposite direction.
The South American was a prolific goal-scorer for the Gunners but the forward has struggled to recreate his form at Manchester United since his move.
Sanchez has only scored three goals in 15 games for the Red Devins to prompt criticism of the January signing.
However, the 29-year-old scored the equaliser in Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last weekend.
Former Arsenal defender Keown still delivered a glowing verdict on Sanchez despite his well-documented struggles.
“I don’t think Sanchez thinks about anything other than playing football,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “He is extremely competitive in whatever he does.
“He is a big game player, fresh from an outstanding performance in an FA Cup semi-final.”
Sanchez netted 24 times in 38 games in his final full season at Arsenal in the Premier League.
The Chilean forward moved to Arsenal in a £35m deal from FC Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window.
